Job summary

Fairview Health Services’ M Health Fairview has an immediate opening for an Endoscopy Technician at University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank. The Endoscopy Technician supports the GI team under nursing and physician direction, performing equipment setup, specimen collection, and prep for procedures to ensure patient comfort and safety.

This casual position covers open shifts with no guaranteed hours and is not eligible for benefits.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Tech, Endoscopy Tech, or Instrument Tech Program or specialized training/education in gastroenterology.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)

Responsibilities

  • Completes tasks delegated by RN with defined role functions and competencies.
  • Assists in data collection to identify patient needs, problems or responses (e.g., vital signs).
  • Assist with implementing the established plan of care, as delegated.
  • Assist physician and nurse before, during, and after procedures, handling devices used during procedures under physician guidance.
  • Reprocesses and maintains equipment per infection prevention standards and manufacturer instructions.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment by complying with regulatory requirements and institutional policies.
  • Participate in ongoing continuing education and stay updated on gastroenterology practice issues.
  • Ensure ethical and confidential conduct; support quality and continuity of care with the care team.

Education

Accredited Surgical Tech, Endoscopy Tech, or Instrument Tech Program (or gastroenterology specialized training)
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Job Overview

M Health Fairview has an immediate opening for an Endoscopy Technician to join our team at University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank! The Endoscopy Technician is an integral part of the GI team within the Endoscopy department who under the guidance and direction of the nursing team or physician accomplishes a variety of delegated nursing assistive tasks such as equipment and supply set-up, assisting with collection of specimens, cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and scopes, exam room prep and clean-up including the documentation of cleaning and disinfection processes. They will complete direct patient care duties to ensure optimal patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience within the OR.

This is a casual position covering open shifts, meaning there are no scheduled/guaranteed shifts per pay period and this job is not eligible for benefits coverage.

Responsibilities
  • Completes tasks as delegate by RN with defined role functions and competencies.
  • Assists in data collection to identify the patient’s needs, problems, concerns or human responses (e.g. vital signs, blood pressure).
  • Assist with the implementation of the established plan of care, as delegated,
  • Assist the physician and nurse before, during and after the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, handling of devices used during procedures including forceps, snares, tomes, baskets and balloons under the guidance of the procedure physician.
  • Reprocesses and maintains equipment according to standards of infection prevention. policies/procedures and manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Provides and maintains a healthy and safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with regulatory agency requirements and standards set forth by professional organization and institutional policies,
  • Acknowledges the diversity of patient.
  • Participates in ongoing continuing education.
  • Maintains knowledge of current practice issues related to the field of gastroenterology.
  • Complies with legal and practice standards inherent in patient care (e.g. patient’s bill of rights).
  • Conducts oneself in an ethical and confidential manner.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as directed, collaborates with the care team to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Communicates effectively with patient and inter profession team to ensure quality and continuity of care ensuring high quality and patient experience outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Tech, Endoscopy Tech, or Instrument Tech Program or specialized training/education in gastroenterology.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized training or education in gastroenterology
  • AAMA or CSSD Certification
