Job Summary:
The Endoscopy Technician, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists physicians or other providers with procedures in the gastroenterology and pulmonary endoscopy setting. This role serves as a technical expert, supporting advanced procedures and maintaining complex endoscopic equipment and instrumentation.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice and Quality of Care
- Performs advanced endoscopic procedures as a technical expert.
- Assists endoscopists, understanding patient anatomy and abnormalities affecting procedures.
- Recognizes emergent situations during procedures and prioritizes assistance accordingly.
- Handles specialty equipment and accessories properly.
- Assists with specimen collection and prepares samples for cytology, microbiology, and pathology.
- Completes quality checks to ensure successful image transfer.
- Understands contrast media used during ERCP and modifies care for patients with allergies.
- Prepares patients with proper positioning and considers weight limitations for fluoroscopy.
- Uses cautery modalities safely, including monopolar, bipolar, and argon plasma coagulation.
- Performs procedures in OR, ICU, ED, or Radiology settings.
- Assists with therapeutic interventions such as balloon dilation, polypectomy, sphincterotomy, stent placement, endostitch, and gastrostomy tube placement.
- Stays current with advanced procedures and new equipment, sharing knowledge through continuing education.
Patient and Team Interaction
- Recognizes and addresses patients' emotional and physical needs, providing support.

- Understands stress-related patient behavior and interacts respectfully, even in challenging situations.
- Supports teamwork through assisting with room cleaning, procedure setup, patient transport, and instrument cleaning.
Additional Duties
- Initiates and carries out projects independently.
- Manages supply inventory and collaborates on specialty supply considerations.
- Troubleshoots equipment issues and reports defective items.
- Monitors contrast inventory, conducts inspections, and documents findings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience: 1 year in role preferred.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Licenses / Certifications: Completion of SGNA certification within 6 months of employment required.
