Responsibilities

  • Assists MD intra-procedure; prepares equipment and communicates with physician during procedures.
  • Collects, labels, documents, and sends specimens per protocol and tracks final reports.
  • Cares for, stores, reprocesses scopes and endoscopy equipment; turnover of rooms.
  • Assists RN/CRNA with pre-, intra-, post-procedure patient care; transports patients.
  • Restocks supplies; maintains infection control and safety standards.
  • Maintains and cleans endoscopy equipment; completes daily/weekly duty checklists.

Join our dedicated Endoscopy Center team and make a difference in the patient experience every day! Our Endoscopy Technicians play an essential role in providing exceptional care and support to patients throughout their endoscopy procedures. This individual assists physicians during procedures, processes and reprocesses scopes and related equipment, manages specimens, supports the RN and/or CRNA with pre-, intra-, and post-procedure care, and helps maintain a clean, well-stocked, and organized environment-all while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.

Full-time position at our Wausau facility, with potential to work at our Stevens Point facility as well.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assists MD intra-procedure; organizes environment by selecting and preparing the proper equipment, instrumentation, and supplies, and clearly communicates with physician during procedures.
  • Collects, prepares, labels, documents, and sends out specimens according to protocol, and tracks specimens to ensure receipt of final report.
  • Responsible for the care, handling, storing, and reprocessing of scopes and other endoscopy procedural equipment, as well as turnover of the procedure rooms. Notifies Endoscopy Center Director if equipment issues are of concern.
  • Assists the RN and/or CRNA with pre, intra, and post-procedure patient care duties as directed; transports patients, removal of IV catheters, pre-post bay turnover, cleaning of equipment, and other related duties, and accurately documents care provided in the electronic medical record.
  • Restocks and refills all areas with supplies, including pre/post bays areas, procedure rooms, and utility rooms.
  • Provides daily care and maintenance of all scope reprocessing and endoscopy equipment.
  • Completes daily and weekly duty checklists to ensure Endoscopy Center maintains infection control, quality, and safety standards.
  • Completes projects as assigned by the Endoscopy Center Director.
  • Serves as a resource and role model to co-workers and peers.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current trends, procedures, and techniques.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Surgical Technician degree preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification
    • BLS certification required.
    • GTS (GI Technical Specialist) certification through SGNA required within three years of employment.
  • Experience
    • GI technician experience or recent OR/ambulatory surgery experience preferred.

    • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency required to practice safely and effectively in an ambulatory surgical setting.
  • Skills

    • Maintain structure of the Endoscopy Center protocols while considering compassionate care for our patients.
    • Proficient computer skills working in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

    • Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and cope with rapidly changing patient care needs.
