Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Endoscopy Lab professional to support reprocessing and patient care in an ambulatory setting. You will work under RN supervision, ensure safe handling of endoscopes, and help maintain a clean, efficient procedure environment.

The role emphasizes adherence to ethical and compliance standards, with opportunities for training and involvement in quality improvement activities within the endoscopy suite.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • CPR – Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains competencies in endoscope reprocessing and operates scope washers.
  • Identifies problems with endoscope integrity and coordinates repairs.
  • Maintains documentation for inventory and repair of endoscopes.
  • Transports patients safely by wheelchair or stretcher and follows patient ID procedures.
  • Assists in preparation of patient prior to and after procedures and maintains a clean environment.

The Endoscopy Tech reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

A clinically competent Endoscopy Lab Scope Reprocessing Technician who works under the supervision of the RN in delivering skilled and effective reprocessing of OES and Video Endoscopes, use of reprocessing machines and all related functions. Provides direct and indirect patient care in the ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a registered nurse. Utilizes initiative, strives to maintain steady level of productivity. Assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Participates in the continuous quality improvement activities regarding endoscopes.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains competencies in the reprocessing of endoscopes and operating the scope washers.
  • Identifies actual or potential problems with the integrity of the endoscopes and assists the charge nurse in orchestrating repair.
  • Maintains documentation regarding the inventory and repair of endoscopes.
  • Uses proper patient identification procedures in transporting of patients.
  • Safely transports patients by wheelchair or stretcher.
  • Demonstrates support and awareness of daily schedule by expediting on time starts and efficient turnover between procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of endotherapy supplies and equipment.
  • Locates, obtains, and restocks supplies and equipment.
  • Performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of a physician and/or nurse.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment.
  • Assists the nurse in the preparation of the patient prior to and after the procedure.
Required
