Job summary

The General Hospital Corporation's Endoscopy Unit is seeking an Operating Room Assistant - Endoscopy. This role supports patient care in the OR, ensures safety, and assists with transfers. 40 hours weekly, day shift, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with alternating weekends/holidays.

Based at 273 Charles Street, the position is onsite. The unit handles about 20,000 cases annually. The assistant works with the surgical team to maintain schedule and provide clear patient interactions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Medical Office/Hospital experience 0-1 year; OR Operating Room experience 0-1 year preferred.
• Must be able to comprehend written directions for mixing cleaning supplies and ordering supplies.
• Must be aware of proper body mechanics when assisting in patient transfer and lifting heavy objects.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with health care staff.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team; monitor OR schedule to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining safety standards, and providing medical assistance in the operating room.
• Promotes patient/family focused care through cordial greetings and interactions with patients, families and hospital personnel.
• Provides hospital/unit orientation information for guests, patients and families.
• Demonstrates awareness of hospital systems and procedures, and locations of departments and service areas.
• Refers patients, families and others to appropriate resources.
• Independently transports and assists in transfer of patients.
• Identifies patients using two identifiers.
• Ensures safety measures during patient transfer.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
