Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center invites applications for an Endoscopic Technologist to coordinate patient care activities for endoscopic procedures. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and at least one year of endoscopy experience or two years of healthcare experience, with preference for outpatient endoscopy exposure.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:30 am–5:00 pm. BLS/CPR certification is required.

Qualifications

• Preferred: one year of outpatient endoscopy experience.
• Certification from an approved endoscopy education program or surgical technologist school may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Set up, maintain, clean, disinfect and sterilize endoscopic, ultrasound and laser equipment.
• Clean and prepare procedure rooms.
• Assist physician and RN in caring for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
• Transport patients to appropriate locations.
• Create and edit report templates for physicians.
• Ensure dictated reports contain all pertinent information.
• Maintain inventory of supplies for endoscopy services.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Participate in ongoing quality improvement efforts.

Job description

The primary purpose of the Endoscopic Technologist position is to assist in the coordination of patient care activities for endoscopic procedures.

Salary Range

• Annual: $49,500 minimum - $62,000 midpoint - $74,500 maximum
• Hourly breakdown: minimum $23.80 - midpoint $29.81 - maximum $35.82

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for the set-up, maintenance, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of all endoscopic, ultra-sound and laser equipment used in endoscopic procedures.
• Cleans and prepares procedure rooms.
• Assists the physician and registered nurse in caring for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
• Transports patients to appropriate locations.
• Creates and edits report templates to be generated by the physicians.
• Ensures dictated reports contain all pertinent information.
• Contributes to maintaining inventory of supplies to provide full service to endoscopy.
• Performs routine equipment maintenance.
• Participates in the continuous monitoring and quality improvement efforts.

Education

Required: High school diploma/equivalent.

Preferred: Graduation from a surgical technologist program.

Experience

Required: One year of endoscopy experience or two years of healthcare experience. Certification from an approved endoscopy education program or graduation from a surgical technologist school may be substituted for the required experience.

Preferred: One year of outpatient endoscopy procedure experience.

Certification

Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
