Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner

As an Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner, you'll practice at the top of your license, leveraging advanced clinical expertise, innovative diabetes technologies, and evidence-based care to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

What You'll Do
Comprehensive Patient Assessment & Diagnosis
- Conduct thorough initial and follow-up assessments of patients' endocrine, metabolic, physical, and psychosocial health.
- Obtain detailed medical, medication, family, and social histories with a focus on endocrine conditions.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and identify endocrine-related health risks.
- Evaluate risk factors associated with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disorders, obesity, osteoporosis, and other endocrine conditions.
- Assess treatment adherence, self-management capabilities, and barriers to successful outcomes.
- Develop differential diagnoses using clinical findings, laboratory results, and diagnostic studies.
- Monitor patient progress and treatment response through ongoing evaluation and follow-up.
Advanced Diagnostic Evaluation
- Order and interpret endocrine and metabolic laboratory studies and diagnostic testing.
- Analyze blood glucose records, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data, and insulin pump reports.
- Evaluate thyroid function studies, hormone panels, bone density testing, and other specialized diagnostics in collaboration with endocrinologists.
- Utilize evidence-based guidelines to guide clinical decision-making and disease management.
Endocrine Disease Management
- Develop individualized treatment plans for patients across the spectrum of endocrine and metabolic disorders.
- Prescribe, initiate, titrate, and monitor medications for diabetes, thyroid disease, obesity, osteoporosis, and related conditions.
- Manage advanced diabetes technologies, including CGMs and insulin pump therapy.
- Recommend lifestyle interventions, medical nutrition therapy, weight management strategies, and exercise programs.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness, medication tolerance, and clinical outcomes to optimize patient health.
Patient Education & Empowerment
- Deliver personalized education tailored to each patient's learning needs and goals.
- Provide diabetes self-management education and support.
- Educate patients on insulin administration, glucose monitoring, CGM use, insulin pump management, and medication adherence.
- Counsel patients and families on nutrition, weight management, physical activity, and long-term risk reduction.
- Foster patient engagement, shared decision-making, and confidence in managing chronic endocrine conditions.
Collaborative Care Coordination
- Partner closely with endocrinologists, primary care physicians, diabetes educators, dietitians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Coordinate specialty referrals and connect patients with valuable community resources.
- Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and case management.
- Ensure seamless care transitions across outpatient, inpatient, and specialty settings.
- Build strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members through exceptional communication.
Specialized Clinical Expertise
Primary emphasis on diabetes management, including:
- Type 1 Diabetes
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Gestational Diabetes
- Prediabetes
Additional areas of care include:
- Thyroid disorders (hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism)
- Obesity and metabolic syndrome
- Osteoporosis and metabolic bone disorders
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
- Hypogonadism
- Endocrine-related complications and disease progression management
Quality, Documentation & Professional Practice
- Maintain timely, accurate, and comprehensive electronic health record documentation.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and population health programs focused on diabetes and endocrine care.
- Support organizational goals related to patient outcomes, quality metrics, and evidence-based practice.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, organizational, and professional standards.
Qualifications
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current Nurse Practitioner licensure and prescriptive authority.
- Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Current certifications and continuing medical education (CME) as required by GCMB, hospital policy, and specialty practice standards.
- Ability to meet physician/APP collaboration requirements as outlined by GCMB and CMS regulations.
- Previous endocrinology, diabetes management, or related specialty experience preferred.
