Job Description

Job Purpose

The End Welder shall operate in the functions of welding metal slitted material in accordance with plant policies and procedures. He/she will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift.

Responsibilities & Duties

  1. Responsible for the setup and operation of mill entry, flatteners, end welder machine, and accumulator.
  2. Ensure weld quality and proper coil edge condition.
  3. Remove rough spots from workpieces using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers.
  4. Monitor operation by watching gauges, dials, or indicators to ensure proper functioning of machinery.
  5. Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed.
  6. Handle and move objects by using hands and arms for installing, positioning, and manipulating materials.
  7. Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.
  8. Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment.
  9. Monitor and review information from materials, events, or environment to detect or assess problems.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (not required).
  • Experience: At least 1 year in welding, preferably within the OCTG pipe industry.
  • Knowledge: Basic reading, writing, arithmetic skills; knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and welding operations; experience with hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment.

Personal Competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required.

Safety

Understand and adhere to all applicable safety rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Normal manufacturing environment conditions.
  • Prohibition of loose-fitting clothes and jewelry on site.
  • Ability to lift 25/50 pounds regularly.
  • Respond quickly to sounds and move safely over uneven terrain or confined spaces.
  • Work in loud, hot environments while wearing PPE.
  • Visual acuity of 20/20 (corrected) and ability to distinguish colors.
