Job summary

Tucson Medical Center is seeking an END Technologist I to perform EEG testing and manage neurodiagnostic procedures on patients across ages. The role requires meticulous electrode placement, artifact handling, and accurate reporting to physicians.

The position is full-time, night shift, and on-site in Tucson. The technologist will operate portable EEG systems, calibrate equipment, and support patient care through precise recording and documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required.
  • Six (6) months EEG experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; EEG registration by ABRET preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs EEG testing and applies electrodes according to the 10-20 system.
  • Conducts EEG on all ages with or without supervision.
  • Operates portable EEG equipment in patient rooms when needed.
  • Protocols long-term video EEG setups with collodion technique when required.
  • Identifies artifacts and documents or mitigates them.
  • Adapts procedures for clinical needs, including activations and montages.
  • Selects electrode configurations as required by the case.
  • Calibrates EEG equipment following standard procedures.
  • Abstracts relevant clinical information from patients and records.
  • Explains procedures to patients and documents observations for physicians.
  • Prepares preliminary and final EEG reports.
  • Notifies staff of equipment malfunctions and arranges repairs.
  • Assists patients with mobility and positioning as needed.
  • Monitors supplies and participates in inventory control.
  • Adheres to safety, confidentiality, values, and policies.

Responsibilities
  • Performs EEG (electroencephalogram) testing. Measures and applies electrodes accurately according to the international 10-20 system.
  • Performs EEG procedures on all age groups without supervision.
  • Performs tests with portable equipment in patient room when necessary.
  • Can hook up a long-term video EEG patient utilizing collodion technique, independently or with supervision.
  • Recognizes artifact and documents, eliminates, or takes proper measures to monitor the artifact.
  • Adapts procedures to particular clinical circumstances, including control settings changes, extra electrodes, extra montages, and use of activation procedures.
  • Selects predetermined electrode combinations as well as special combinations made necessary by the case under study.
  • Calibrates and adjusts the EEG apparatus in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Abstracts relevant information from the patient, patient’s clinical record, or family member (e.g., seizure types, last seizure, medications, birth history for pediatric patients).
  • Explains procedures to patients; observes patient for any unusual reactions or events; lists all pertinent information on the record.
  • Prepares preliminary reports, places them in the patient’s chart or addresses to the patient’s physician; completes final report for physician interpretation.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed.
  • Assists patients with mobility and positioning (getting into/out of chairs, lifting, bed adjustments).
  • Checks equipment, supplies, and accessories on a regular basis; assists in inventory control and ordering supplies.
  • Adheres to organizational and department safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High School diploma required.
  • Experience: None required. Six (6) months of EEG experience preferred.
  • Licensure or Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Board eligible for EEG registration by the American Board of Registered Electroencephalographic Technologists (REEGT) preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of neurodiagnostic studies best practices and measurement techniques; skill in conducting EEG and neurodiagnostic measurements; ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to complete routine reports and correspondence; ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization; ability to calculate figures and interpret data; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables; ability to interpret written or schedule-form instructions.
