Job summary

Columbia Heights Public Schools seeks an ENCORE Teacher for the Columbia Academy after-school program. The teacher will support safety and student engagement as part of the ENCORE leadership team.

Schedule runs 3:30-5:30 per day with a 5:30-5:45 transition; pay is $40 per hour. Responsibilities include attendance, parent pick-up coordination, and timely timesheet submission, all while fostering an engaging, academic environment.

Qualifications

• Proposed classes must include an academic component.
• Each semester the teacher is allowed a maximum of 2 prep hours for curriculum writing.
• Attendance and timekeeping are required for ENCORE.

Responsibilities

• The Teacher works with the ENCORE Leadership team to ensure the safety and support of students for the ENCORE After School Program.
• Teachers are required to take attendance and submit accurate timesheets.
• Teachers pick up students from a designated location at the beginning of ENCORE and bring them to the bus/front door at release time.
• Students may have a snack prior to instruction; teachers are encouraged to include physical activities inside or outside.
• Feedback is provided through surveys and by ENCORE Site Facilitators; improvements are expected.
• ENCORE Teachers expand learning and enrichment opportunities and contribute to a fun, engaging culture.

ENCORE Teacher (Columbia Academy)

Columbia Heights Public Schools is hiring teachers for our after-school ENCORE programming.

ENCORE will begin on October 21, 2026 and will run through May 19, 2027.

Schedule:

Afterschool Hours: 3:30-5:30 (instructional time)
5:30-5:45 (clean-up/transition time with students)
2.25 hours time carded

Additional Details:

• Proposed classes must include an academic component. Some ideas of categories that can be incorporated with your academic focus are things like; fitness/nutrition, arts, technology,environment, or youth leadership.
• Pay Rate: $40.00/hr
• Each semester the teacher is allowed a maximum of 2 prep hours for curriculum writing
• ENCORE aims to have a friendly, fun, and engaging culture. Think group songs, fun routines, and call-and-response attention getters. Because learning can be (and should be) fun. A daily lineup of activities that expose kids to new experiences, encourage kids to work in teams or groups, and includes academic skill-building (like reading a play and then acting it out), and get kids outside to run around and explore. Teachers should have clear reasons why particular learning activities are chosen —Look for the "intentionality" of each lesson, experiment, and experience.

• Teachers are required to take attendance. Accurate attendance is a requirement of ENCORE.
• Teachers are expected to pick up the students from a designated location at the beginning of ENCORE and bring the students to the bus/front door at release time.
• Students will have the opportunity to enjoy a snack prior to instruction. Teachers are encouraged to spend some time doing physical activities during the ENCORE class and may determine if that is inside or outside.
• Accurate, complete, and timely submission of timesheets is expected. Timesheets are submitted to the ENCORE Site Facilitators.
• Teachers will be given feedback on the classes through the results of surveys and informally by the Community Ed Coordinator or ENCORE Site Facilitators. Improvements and adjustments in the classes are expected to maintain quality.
