Regular, Part-Time to Full-Time (70-100% FTE), Limited-Term (not to exceed two (2) years in duration from date of hire), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), East Maui Watershed Partnership (EMWP), located in Makawao, Maui. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:

$3,175.20 - $5,200/Mon (@70-100% FTE).

DUTIES:

• Develops and implements public outreach and education activities that increase awareness and support for watershed protection, native ecosystems and EMWP management activities.
• Works closely with EMWP Program Manager, to promote EMWP natural resource objectives through public education, community engagement, and communications.
• Interacts with EMWP landowners, schools, community organizations, volunteers, media, civic leaders, and local hunting and ranching community.
• Assists in the preparation of reports, and prepares publications, digital/social media content and other public outreach documents.
• Develops content and curriculum for classroom presentations on natural resource management and watershed protection programs.
• Drives project vehicles to transport staff.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Bachelor`s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university. (High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and at least three (3) years of professional experience in marketing or communications field may substitute for a Bachelor`s Degree).

EXPERIENCE

One to three (1-3) years of experience in an active research, resource management program, or in communications or education aimed at protection of Hawai‘i's natural resources. Experience maintaining websites using WordPress or similar content management systems.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of Hawaiian biota and threats from incipient alien plant and animal invasions in Hawai‘i.

Knowledge of basic methods to document a natural resource-related project.

Knowledge of the Hawaiian community, economy and politics.

Familiarity with graphic design, digital photography, and photo editing software.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

Must be dependable, flexible, and attentive to details.

Must have good organizational and time management skills for timely completion of responsibilities.

Must have good interpersonal skills and ability communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Proficient with word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software.

Must possess a valid driver's license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i's No-Fault Driver's Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment.

Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check, Must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course within twelve (12) months of hire. Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within twelve (12) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to hike on uneven terrain in remote areas.

Must not be acrophobic (afraid of heights).

POLICY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENT

As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies, procedures, and trainings and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies, procedures, and trainings.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:

Familiar with biological principles and resources pertaining to Hawaiian ecosystems and alien/invasive species.

Familiar with Hawaiian protocols, cultural values and traditions as they relate to conservation in Hawai‘i.

Strong graphic design aesthetic and skills. Experience working in an office to support and promote biological field activities.
