Job summary

Huntsville Hospital seeks a dedicated EMT-Paramedic to administer life support care in pre-hospital settings, following state protocols and medical control guidance. You will assess patients, initiate treatment at the scene, and communicate with hospital teams.

Responsibilities include maintaining credentials, documenting care, ensuring vehicle readiness, assisting on scene with additional personnel, and delivering excellent customer service to patients and families while meeting response-time

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Alabama EMSP EMT license and CPR certification are required.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish procedures to follow.
  • Works to restore and stabilize cardiac, pulseless, and non-breathing patients.
  • Administers initial treatment at the emergency scene and records vital signs.
  • Maintains driving status and insurable driving status.
  • Communicates with hospital personnel per HEMSI-approved methods.
  • Documents patient care in approved reporting systems.
  • Keeps vehicle and station clean, safe, and ready for use.
  • Assists on scene with additional personnel and volunteers.
  • Maintains credentials and keeps up-to-date with protocol changes.
  • Provides excellent customer service to patients and families.

Job description

This position administers life support care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital setting, in accordance with statewide Treatment Protocols and HEMSI Medical Control Physicians, as authorized and directed by physician and/or paramedic.

Responsibilities

Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance.

Works efficiently to restore and stabilize cardiac, pulselessness, non-breathing patients.

Administers initial treatment at emergency scene and takes and records patient's vital signs.

Remains in good driving status and maintains insurable driving status.

Communicates with hospital/TCC personnel by HEMSI approved communication methods.

Maintains up to date credentials regarding licensing and protocol changes.

Appropriately documents patient care in all HEMSI approved reporting methods.

Observes all safety and security procedures for their vehicle and station.

Maintains unit in constant state of readiness through supplies and equipment restocking

Efficiently cleans and performs minor maintenance to emergency vehicle.

Maintains a clean and orderly vehicle and station

Assists in direction and coordination of additional personnel on scene, including volunteer responders.

Faithfully reports to work and maintains acceptable attendance

Provides excellent customer service to patients and family members

Meets the HEMSI standard on response times

Qualifications
Education required:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Certificate, License or Registration:

State of Alabama EMSP License as EMT. Valid and current driver's license. Healthcare Provider CPR Certification upon hire or obtained within provisional period.

Additional Skills/experience
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Writing Skills - Ability to legibly write routine reports and correspondence.
