Job summary

Huntsville Hospital seeks an EMT to administer life support care in pre-hospital settings under statewide protocols and EMS Medical Control Physicians, as directed by physicians and/or paramedics.

Responsibilities include assessing injuries, stabilizing patients, recording vital signs, maintaining credentials, and coordinating with hospital staff. Requires EMT certificate, Alabama EMSP license, CPR, valid driver's license, and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Must have EMT certificate and Alabama EMSP license.
• CPR certification for healthcare providers.
• EVOC training is required after employment.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assesses illness or injury and prioritizes medical procedures.
• Stabilizes cardiac/pulseless/non-breathing patients.
• Administers initial treatment at the scene and records vital signs.
• Keeps driving status and insurable driving status current.
• Communicates with hospital/EMS personnel via approved methods.
• Maintains up-to-date credentials and protocol knowledge.
• Documents patient care in approved reporting systems.
• Keeps vehicle/station ready and clean; restocks supplies.
• Assists in directing additional personnel on scene.
• Reports to work reliably and maintains attendance.
• Provides excellent service to patients and families.

Job description

This position administers life support care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital setting, in accordance with statewide Treatment Protocols and EMS Medical Control Physicians, as authorized and directed by physician and/or paramedic

Responsibilities

• Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance.
• Works efficiently to restore and stabilize cardiac, pulselessness, non-breathing patients.
• Administers initial treatment at emergency scene and takes and records patient's vital signs.
• Remains in good driving status and maintains insurable driving status.
• Communicates with hospital/TCC personnel by HEMSI approved communication methods.
• Maintains up to date credentials regarding licensing and protocol changes.
• Appropriately documents patient care in all HEMSI approved reporting methods.
• Observes all safety and security procedures for their vehicle and station.
• Maintains unit in constant state of readiness through supplies and equipment restocking
• Efficiently cleans and performs minor maintenance to emergency vehicle.
• Maintains a clean and orderly vehicle and station
• Assists in direction and coordination of additional personnel on scene, including volunteer responders.
• Faithfully reports to work and maintains acceptable attendance
• Provides excellent customer service to patients and family members
• Meets the HEMSI standard on response times

Qualifications

• Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
• State of Alabama EMSP License as EMT
• Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
• EVOC – once employed/promoted must obtain and maintain
• Valid and current driver’s license
• Education and/or Experience – High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and required undergraduate EMT certificate
