Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • NY EMT-B or EMT-CC active certification required.
  • BLS Certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • NIMS IC-100 and IS-700 coursework required.
  • Must be able to safely lift, carry, and balance up to 150 pounds without assistance and up to 300 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to calls when dispatched.
  • Reads maps and may drive ambulance to emergency site using the fastest safe route.
  • Observes traffic regulations and uses body substance isolation procedures.
  • Assesses scene safety and patient condition; communicates needs to dispatcher and medical control.
  • Transfers patient to ambulance and provides ongoing medical care en route to facility.
  • Reports observations and actions to receiving facility and maintains documentation.
