The Perioperative Patient Care Technician provides technical and support services to registered nurses and anesthesiologists in the care of patients by performing assigned patient care activities and related services. Also assists with the preparation, care, maintenance, and availability of anesthesia supplies and equipment. Assists with invasive line preparation, placement, and monitoring. A Brief Overview
The Perioperative Patient Care Technician provides technical and support services to registered nurses and anesthesiologists in the care of patients by performing assigned patient care activities and related services. Also assists with the preparation, care, maintenance, and availability of anesthesia supplies and equipment. Assists with invasive line preparation, placement, and monitoring. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do

  • Provides support to registered nurses in the preparation, care, maintenance, and availability of anesthesia supplies and equipment.
  • Provides support to registered nurses in patient care.
  • Maintains a sterile field for perioperative services. Ensures adherence to the sterile field by applying principles of aseptic techniques.
  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.


Education Qualifications

  • Technical Degree or Diploma Surgical Technology
  • Technical Degree or Diploma Emerg Medical Tech (EMT)
  • Technical Degree or Diploma Nursing - LPN

Experience Qualifications

  • No prior work experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates competency in performing venipunctures and removal of arterial punctures and other essential functions of the job.
  • Understands the principles and procedures related to infection control and aseptic technique.

Licenses and Certifications

  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
