Job summary

Moore County EMS is seeking a qualified paramedic to perform ambulance operations, rescue and transport, and administer emergency medical care. The role includes maintaining detailed records and reports while working under the supervision of the EMS Captain and Major.

Candidates must hold Paramedic Certification with multiple related certifications; physical agility, drug screening, and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and Paramedic Certification with 3 additional certifications.
• HS diploma and Paramedic Certification with 1 year experience and 4 additional certifications.
• Associate Degree and Paramedic Certification with 4 additional certifications.
• Bachelor’s Degree and Paramedic Certification with 5 additional certifications.

Responsibilities

• Drive an ambulance, rescue and transport the sick and injured.
• Administer emergency medical care.
• Maintain records and prepare reports.
• Work under the supervision of the EMS Captain and/or EMS Major.
• Meet drug screening, agility testing, and other eligibility requirements.

Job description

This position performs technical work driving an ambulance, rescuing and transporting the sick and injured, administering emergency medical care, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the EMS Captain and/or EMS Major.

Required skills:

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• General knowledge of equipment and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents
• Thorough knowledge of the street and road system and physical layout of the county
• Skills in diagnosing a victim's condition and applying emergency medical care
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, associates, patients and their families, other emergency service agencies, and the general public
• Ability to keep records and prepare reports

Step 1 – Minimum Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and three (3) additional job-related certifications

Step 2

• High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and one (1) year of experience and four (4) additional job-related certifications
• Associate Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and four (4) additional job-related certifications

Step 3

• High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and two (2) years of experience and five (5) additional job-related certifications
• Associate Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and one (1) year of experience and five (5) additional job-related certifications
• Bachelor’s Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and five (5) additional job-related certifications

Step 4 (Paramedic First Class)

• High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and three (3) years of experience and six (6) job-related certifications
• Associate Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and two (2) years of experience and six (6) job-related certifications
• Bachelor’s Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and one (1) year of experience and six (6) job-related certifications
• Master’s Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and six (6) job-related certifications

Step 5 (Paramedic First Class)

• High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and four (4) years of experience and seven (7) job-related certifications
• Associate Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and three (3) years of experience and seven (7) job-related certifications
• Bachelor’s Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and two (2) years of experience and seven (7) job-related certifications
• Master’s Degree from an appropriately accredited institution and Paramedic Certification and one (1) year of experience and seven (7) job-related certifications
• National Registry EMT-Paramedic
• Critical Care Paramedic EMT Paramedic
• 2 Professional Development Certifications

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug screenings. Must pass post offer physical agility testing. Current Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) vaccination.

This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and wearing a respirator; the worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
