Job summary

Person County Government is seeking full-time Paramedics for the EMS Division to provide high-quality, lifesaving care to the community.

Paramedics perform advanced and basic life support, stabilization, and transport in emergencies and non-emergencies, collaborating with EMS, fire, law enforcement, and hospitals. This position includes built-in overtime with a 24 on/72 off shift cycle.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED is required.
• Certification by NC as an EMT-Paramedic or eligible for reciprocity.
• CPR certification is required.
• NIMS IC 100, 200, 700, 800 within 90 days of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency calls in an ambulance and provides basic and advanced life support.
• Performs emergency medical acts per protocols including meds and cardiac care.
• Performs patient assessment and life support techniques; manages airways and shunts.
• Transports patients to local and regional facilities with medical staff contact.
• Completes comprehensive patient care documentation for billing and accountability.
• Participates in ongoing training to maintain certifications and improve competence.
• Inspects and maintains EMS equipment and vehicles; ensures readiness.
• Maintains cleanliness of EMS facilities and equipment.

Person County Government is actively recruiting full-time Paramedics to join its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division- a team dedicated to providing high-quality, lifesaving care to the community.

Paramedics perform advanced and basic life support assessment, treatment, stabilization, and transport of patients in emergency and non-emergency situations. This position requires strong clinical judgment, technical proficiency, and the ability to remain calm and decisive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. Paramedics play a critical role in patient care, working collaboratively with fellow EMS personnel, fire departments, law enforcement, hospitals, and other healthcare providers.

This position will have built-in overtime. The shift cycle is 24 hours on and 72 hours off.

The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.

Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

• Responds to emergency calls in a an ambulance and performs necessary rescue work in accordance with established protocols for Basic and Advanced Life Support; administers necessary emergency medical care, including the use of, but not limited to: transport ventilators, intravenous infusion pumps, suction units, immobilization equipment, syringes and medications, cardiac monitors/defibrillator/pacers, video laryngoscopes and other advanced airway equipment, and automatic chest compression devices
• Performs emergency medical acts in accordance with protocols established by the department and the County's Medical Director; administers cardiac and narcotic medications via intravenous line, administers specified solutions by intravenous infusion, performs pulmonary ventilations and obtains EKGs for cardiac diagnostics.
• Performs patient assessment, basic life support techniques in accordance with local protocols including airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; oxygen administration; hemorrhage control; treatment for shock; bandaging and dressing injuries and splinting of fractures and dislocations; treatment of injuries to various parts of the body; provision of basic life support for medical injuries, assisting in normal and abnormal childbirth, treatment of injuries and burns; lifting and moving patients for transfer to a medical facility, and extrication of patients from confined areas.
• Transports patients to local and regional medical facilities, maintaining contact with medical staff while in transport and assuring care of patient.
• Completes full patient care documentation through various paper and electronic based formats during and after calls for service including information for billing documentation, and legal accountability.
• Participates in a continuous training program to maintain certification and improve competence in medical technical work and operation; studies street and road patterns and networks of the County in order that future runs may be made with minimum difficulty and delay.
• Inspects and tests response vehicles and their emergency equipment, maintaining proper inventory of equipment and supplies; cleans and sanitizes equipment daily; ensures that they are in proper and good working order; makes routine adjustments, but reports other than minor defects for specialized attention.
• Maintains cleanliness and performs minor maintenance of Emergency Medical Service facilities; to include, but not limited to; sweeping, mopping, cleaning dishes, cleaning and sanitizing living spaces, and cleaning up around the outside of the facility.
• Participates in community outreach programs to promote safety and prevention awareness and to provide information on EMS services.
• May serve as a Field Training Officer with newer employees, overseeing and documenting protocols; provides direction to EMT, AEMT, and First Responder certified staff or employees of other organizations.
• May be required to work in the County's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or Mobile EOC or conduct other emergency support function (ESF) duties as required.
• Performs related work as assigned.

• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.

• Certification by the State of North Carolina as an EMT-Paramedic or be eligible for state reciprocity/legal recognition by the State of North Carolina.
• CPR Certification.
