Position Summary
Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a dedicated and experienced EMT: IV to join our Emergency Medical Services team.

Key Responsibilities
Emergency Medical Care
- Provide direct patient care within the EMT‑B scope of practice
- Assist ALS partners with advanced patient care as appropriate
- Assist with triage, assessment, and ongoing evaluation of patients
- Assess and reassess patient pain and utilize appropriate pain management techniques within scope of practice
- Provide appropriate care to patients in dynamic pre‑hospital environments
- Address the psychosocial needs of patients and families
- Adapt care appropriately for patients of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds
- Perform patient care in a manner that promotes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of treatment errors
Ambulance & Equipment Operations
- Inspect the assigned ambulance at the beginning of the shift to ensure it is mechanically sound and appropriately equipped
- Operate ambulances and other EMS vehicles safely and responsibly
- Operate medical equipment safely and correctly
- Maintain familiarity with medications and IV fluids authorized within applicable protocols
- Maintain readiness of equipment and supplies necessary for emergency response
- Promptly identify and communicate equipment, vehicle, or safety concerns
Documentation & Quality
- Complete patient care documentation accurately and in accordance with current standards and policies
- Complete required documentation within the assigned shift
- Participate appropriately in quality assurance activities
- Accept and apply feedback from QA to continually improve clinical practice
- Maintain required training, continuing education, licensure, and certifications
- Follow established EMS and PSMC policies, procedures, protocols, and chain of command
Teamwork & Emergency Preparedness
- Work collaboratively with EMTs, paramedics, healthcare providers, law enforcement, fire agencies, and other emergency response partners
- Communicate effectively with EMS leadership and team members
- Demonstrate sound critical thinking and professional judgment in high‑stress situations
- Understand the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the role of EMS during large‑scale exercises and actual incidents
- Assist with the orientation of new EMS staff members
- Participate in departmental training and emergency preparedness activities
- Support a professional, respectful, and team‑oriented EMS culture
Station Responsibilities
- Participate in assigned station duties and chores
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe living and working quarters
- Follow established expectations for shared EMS living quarters
- Participate in departmental inventory activities as assigned
- Perform additional station, training, and operational responsibilities as needed
Qualifications: Education & Training
- Completion of the EMT‑B national standard curriculum required
- Successful completion of a Colorado State‑recognized IV training curriculum required
Experience
- Experience working as an EMT‑B required
- Operational experience providing care to sick and injured patients strongly desired but not required
- Knowledge of clinical scope‑of‑practice skills, critical thinking, and pre‑hospital patient care concepts required
- Experience providing pre‑hospital care in dynamic environments requiring adaptability, situational awareness, and critical thinking strongly desired
Licensure & Certifications
- Current Colorado EMT‑B certification required
- Current AHA BLS certification for Healthcare Providers required
- Must successfully complete a Fitness for Duty evaluation
- Must remain insurable under PSMC's automobile insurance requirements and maintain an acceptable driving record

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
This is a physically demanding emergency response position. The job description classifies the position as Very Heavy Work and includes lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and other physical activities associated with patient movement and emergency response. Work is performed in a variety of environments and may involve exposure to inclement weather, roadway and traffic hazards, blood and bodily fluids, communicable diseases, hazardous materials, equipment hazards, and potentially challenging or physically aggressive situations.

Schedule, Hours & Overtime
PSMC EMS employees generally work 24- to 48-hour shift tours, with most operations following a traditional public safety 48 hours on / 96 hours off (48/96) schedule.
For employees scheduled to work 24 consecutive hours or more:
- Regular wages are paid for hours worked up to 40 hours in a single workweek
- Hours worked beyond 40 hours in the workweek are paid at 1.5 times the employee's regular rate
- Daily overtime after 12 hours does not apply when the employee is scheduled for a shift of 24 hours or longer
EMS employees may occasionally be scheduled for shifts of less than 24 hours to assist with operational or high‑volume needs. For these shorter shifts, hours worked beyond 12 hours in a single workday are paid at 1.5 times the employee's regular rate.

Base Compensation Range: $20.67 - $24.61 hourly
