Job summary

The City of Oxnard is seeking an EMT Instructor - Extra Help to deliver EMT education, supervise hands-on training, and handle related administrative duties in support of the EMS Corps program.

The role involves preparing lectures, coordinating with staff and partner agencies, and assisting with wraparound services for students. This position is not benefits-eligible due to temporary status and is paid on an hourly or short-term basis.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with four years related experience or Associate’s degree with two years related experience.
• Valid California Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
• Current American Heart Association BLS or equivalent.
• NAEMSE Level 1 instructor or State Fire Marshal instructor 1 certification or ability to obtain.
• California Paramedic License.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and facilitates EMS Corps lesson plans and EMT skills training in classroom or lab settings.
• Coordinates with department and partner agency staff for instruction and drills.
• Collaborates with program staff to identify student needs and deliver wraparound services.
• Maintains EMT skills lab equipment.
• Performs EMS Corps-related administrative duties and data entry.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Associate’s degree (60 units) in related field

California Paramedic License

American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification

NAEMSE Level 1 instructor / State Fire Marshal instructor 1 certification or ability to obtain

Valid California Class C Driver’s License

VCEMSA Independent Practice Accreditation

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification

Advanced Medical Life Support Certification

Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Certification

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification

Tactical Emergency Casualty Care Certification
