Job summary

Norton Sound Health Corp. seeks an EMT I for regular full-time staffing in Nome, AK. The role supports basic patient care, on-site emergency response, and transportation coordination to hospitals as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Identify cardiac dysrhythmias and initiate basic life support.
  • Assist ER providers with point-of-care testing, wound care, phlebotomy, IVs, EKGs, and preparation for transfer.

Salary Range: $34.25 To $43.80 Annually

Purpose of Position:

Provide basic support care to patients ground transportation and provide technicial support to the emergency department to optimize patient care.

Essential Functions:

  • To respond to onsite medical emergencies, conduct a preliminary medical assessment of the patient(s) condition(s), triage and provide intervention per protocol, communicate interventions and status to care facility and safely transport patients to hospital as required by condition(s).
  • Apply artificial respiration or administer oxygen in cases of asphyxiation, dyspnea or hypoxia, start and administer intravenous fluids, and perform other emergency medical procedures during on site stabilization and transportation
  • Identify cardiac dysrthymia or arthymia and intervene with American Heart Association approved basic life support
  • Assist providers in the emergency room to include, but not limited to, point of care testing, wound care, phlebotomy, IV, EKGs, monitors and preparation for additional patient transport to higher level of care
  • Provide education to community residents regarding emergency medical care and prevention
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge:

Job Specific knowledge as listed below:

  • Knowledge of universal precautions, EMTALA, HITECH and HIPAA
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures common to the emergency department
  • Knowledge of emergency communication techniques
  • Knowledge of state and federal guidelines for emergency management procedures

EMT I (Grade 7)

  • High school diploma
  • EMT I Certification
  • 2 years in patient care
  • BLS certified

EMT II (Grade 8)

  • Meets all the requirements of a EMT I
  • EMT II Certification
  • 1 additional year of patient care
  • ACLS, PALS certified.

EMT III (Grade 9)

  • Meets all the requirements of a EMT I and II
  • EMT III Certification, AS degree or equivalent.
  • 1 additional year of patient care
  • ACLS, PALS certified.

Physical Requirements:

Use hands and arms to operate office or clinical equipment

Sit more than half the workday

Stand and/or walk more than half the workday

Bend, stretch, twist, crouch and/or reach

Lift or carry unaided 25 to 50 pounds

Push or pull using more than moderate force

See and hear with normal acuity

Working Conditions:

Work is conducted in a standard clinical environment to include exposure to latex, biohazrd or other harmful substances.

Travel may be required via large aircraft.

Travel may be required via small (less than 16 passenger) aircraft

Travel may be required using snowmobiles, all terrain vehicles, or boat.

Work may be conducted outside in inclement weather contitions.
