Job description

Note: this job posting is for candidates who already possess an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification.
Rate at hire based on prior EMT experience and driver training eligibility.*
Earn an extra $2.00 per hour differential for weekend shifts (shift starting Friday night through Sunday night).
Mohawk is hiring confident EMTs to provide patients with basic life support and transport to medical facilities. EMTs collaborate with other emergency medical personnel to stabilize patients, and to arrange their reception at medical facilities. EMTs must be accountable to their patients, conduct themselves in a professional manner, be positive, and commit to continue their EMS education to become the best provider possible. An EMT is responsible for completing a 2 person crew that will respond to 911 calls for service, provide appropriate patient care, and complete electronic care reports for each incident.

  • Function as a NYS emergency medical technician to direct, provide, and facilitate high-quality patient care.
  • Function as a EMT-driver and EMT-attendant (i.e. must be driver eligible to undergo emergency vehicle driver training, and must possess a clean driving record).
  • Arrive punctually, fit, and ready for work in company approved uniform
  • Respond to calls when dispatched. Reads GPS devices to drive ambulance to emergency site using most expeditious route permitted by weather and road conditions. Observes all traffic ordinances and regulations.
  • Promote a culture of safety for all employees, patients, and stakeholders by adhering to workplace safety policies; observe, correct, and report safety concerns and deficiencies to the on-duty Shift Leader.
  • Adhere to company, regional, state, and federal policies, procedures, and laws & regulations.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • NYS EMT Certified (successfully completed an approved New York State EMT-B or AEMT course, or out of state equivalent, and achieved a passing score on the practical and written certification examinations; note that AEMT-certified employees will be practicing at the EMT-B level)
  • Successful completion of free, in house training (EVOC/emergency vehicle operator course)
  • Flexible availability on nights and weekends
  • Have and maintain Class “D” New York State Driver License or higher or analogous equivalent from another jurisdiction without record of suspension or revocation in any State. Must be deemed insurable to operate an emergency vehicle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via telephone and radio equipment
  • Ability to lift, carry and balance up to 125 pounds (250 lbs. with assistance)
  • Flexible work available (8,10, 12 hour shifts). Minimum 36 hours per week for FT, and 12 hours for PT; subject to one additional shift per week
  • Part-time pay rate will differ from rate advertised

* Only experience which can be verified will be recognized. New hire experience must be verifiable and must represent time spent in the EMS field, within the specific job classification for which they are being hired, that is not de minimis, volunteer or piece meal work.
