Job summary

REMSA Health is seeking a Communications Specialist (EMT Dispatcher) in Reno, NV to handle emergency medical and fire calls, dispatch resources, and provide caller instructions until responders arrive on scene.

Offered is full-time employment with benefits. You will complete EMT training onsite, with relocation assistance available and a path to certification through our academy.

Qualifications

  • EMT course completion within 6 months of hire or current EMT certification preferred.
  • Pass Criticall Exam as part of consideration.
  • Pass EMT Entrance Exam if no prior EMT course.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to pass EMT-related exams and training as required.

Responsibilities

  • Answer emergency medical and fire calls for service and dispatch ambulances and fire resources.
  • Process emergency medical and fire related calls using established protocols.
  • Provide callers with instructions to begin patient care and safety guidance until help arrives.
  • Dispatch the closest appropriate response resource and communicate safety concerns for additional precautions or equipment.

Opportunity

As a Communications Specialist (EMT Dispatcher) you answer emergency medical and fire calls for service and dispatch ambulances and fire resources to locations requesting help. As a call taker you process emergency medical and fire related calls using established protocols. You give callers instructions to begin patient care and how to safeguard themselves until help arrives on scene. The dispatcher position is responsible for sending the closest appropriate response resource to the scene. The dispatcher also communicates safety concerns involving patients and responders to determine whether or not additional precautions or equipment should be taken.

We offer a full academy training to develop the skills and competence to successfully process calls and dispatch resources. Prior medical or fire experience is preferred. All Communications Specialists must have completed or will need to complete an EMT course within 6 months of hire. REMSA Health has an onsite education facility where the EMT course would be completed. This is a full-time position that is eligible for benefits. We also offer relocation assistance!

Requirements
  • Ability to pass Criticall Exam
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 wpm
  • Ability to pass EMT Entrance Exam (if no prior EMT course completion)
  • Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Ability to multi-task, attentive to detail in various forms
  • Ability to work any 12-hour shift (days, nights, weekends,and holidays)
  • Upon hire, complete and pass E.M.D. Training & EMT Course (if no prior EMT course completion)
