Job Summary

Perform authorized Level of certification activities as outlined by the Kansas State Board of EMS per the discretion of the Paramedic on the call.

Location

Location: Hutchinson Regional Medical Center; FTE: 1.

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

• Provides basic life support to sick and injured persons in the pre-hospital setting as authorized and directed by the Emergency Department Physician under protocols approved by the Emergency Services Critical Care Committee.
• Assesses vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, level of consciousness and skin).
• Administers CPR and oxygen and performs detailed patient assessment, trauma and medical, spinal immobilization and extremity fracture management, and basic airway management.
• Provides patient extrication, hemorrhage control and monitors crystalloid IV administration.
• Drives the mobile intensive care unit to and from the scene with due regard for weather and road conditions and hazards.
• Act in accordance with established mission, vision, and values.
• Abide by HIPAA privacy and security regulations regarding PHI.
• Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

General Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: Completion of an approved EMT course; High School Diploma.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: Current Kansas EMT certification; Valid Kansas driver’s license.

• Basic patient care knowledge to include taking/recording vital signs, pulse, etc.
• Basic keyboarding and computer skills.
• Ability to calculate percentages, proportions and volume.
• Ability to read, interpret and complete reports and documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

Physical Requirements

• Very Heavy Work: Occasionally exerting greater than 100 lbs; constantly exerting up to 50 lbs.
