Job summary

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Inc. is seeking an EMT/AEMT to perform authorized tasks per Kansas EMS scope under the on-call Paramedic supervision. The role includes direct patient care, scene assessment and transport in Reno County, with emphasis on safety and compliance.

The position supports a full benefits package and equity in patient care outcomes. The successful candidate completes EMT course requirements, holds Kansas EMT certification and a valid Kansas driver’s license, and works

Responsibilities

• Provides basic life support to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital setting under physician protocols.
• Assesses vital signs (BP, pulse, respirations, consciousness).
• Administers CPR, oxygen and basic airway management.
• Performs patient extrication, hemorrhage control and IV management as needed.
• Transports patient to hospital in ambulance/MICU setting.
• Maintains PHI privacy and communicates with team and public.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.

• Provides basic life support to sick and injured persons in the pre-hospital setting as authorized and directed by the Emergency Department Physician under protocols approved by the Emergency Services Critical Care Committee.
• Assesses vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, level of consciousness and skin).
• Administers CPR and oxygen and performs detailed patient assessment, trauma and medical, spinal immobilization and extremity fracture management, and basic airway management.
• Provides patient extrication, hemorrhage control and monitors crystalloid IV administration.
• Drives the mobile intensive care unit to and from the scene with due regard for weather and road conditions and hazards.
• Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
• Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

Completion of an approved EMT course.

• Basic patient care knowledge to include taking/recording vital signs, pulse, etc.
• Basic keyboarding and computer skills.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

• Very Heavy Work: Occasionally exerting greater than 100 lbs - constantly exerting up to 50 lbs. 75-100% of the day may be standing or walking.
