Job summary

MedStar Solutions is seeking experienced EMTs for Event Medical Services. You will assess patients, render treatment, and determine transport plans at sports, festivals, and large gatherings. This contract work is on an 'as needed' basis with open shifts and weekday/weekend availability.

Qualified candidates have EMT-Basic certification, current CPR, a valid driver's license, and FEMA IS certifications. Prior EMS work and strong communication are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 year experience in a 911/EMS system or hospital trauma center.
  • State EMT-Basic certification and current CPR.
  • FEMA IS certifications required within 30 days of start.
  • Valid state driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive medical assistance during assignments.
  • Assess patients, develop care plans, and render treatment.
  • Document patient conditions and treatments on EMS run reports.
  • Operate within licensure limits and approved protocols.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and assist in setup of medical locations.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY: EMT for Event Medical Services. Working special events, spring training games, outdoor events, festivals, concerts, and sports. Assess patient condition, develop a plan of care, render treatment, and determine a plan for release or transport. This is contract work on an 'as needed' basis. EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

IMMEDIATE OPENINGS: We are seeking confident and experienced EMT's who can work alone or with other providers who will assess and often give definitive care to those attending/participating in special events, endurance sports, and other specialty venues.

SPECIAL NEED - HIGHER PRIORITY: This will be given to those who are able to work weekdays as well as weekends. Please note this in the additional questions area, about being able to pick up shifts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide proactive medical assistance during assignments.
  • Conduct thorough patient examinations, identify signs of illness or injury, and assist fellow medical personnel as needed.
  • Administer efficient basic life support within licensure limits and MedStar Solutions-approved protocols prior to and during transport.
  • Document patient conditions and treatments on EMS run reports, recording non-medical patient information when necessary.
  • Conduct regular unit inventory and equipment testing to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Demonstrate full knowledge of basic life support equipment and its correct usage.
  • Control patient surroundings in the absence of qualified personnel, minimizing danger and managing bystander actions.
  • Adhere to FCC regulations for electronic communications equipment usage.
  • Attend scheduled mandatory meetings and assist in setting up/breaking down medical locations or facilities.
  • Communicate inventory needs and restock basic supplies as required.
  • Complete company reports and logs electronically or on paper as needed.
  • Assist in training employees, following required protocols, and document necessary training.
  • Meet established hours or shift requirements and comply with job description, company policies, and relevant standards.
  • Remain knowledgeable about company protocols, operational procedures, and policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMAND OF JOB

This is not a typical EMT Job. Our providers roam the venue, or may have to hike in on outdoor events. Lifting or carrying of patients and equipment, climbing stairs or steps, working in unusual geographic settings such as ditches, hills, embankments, high elevations – natural or manmade; Hiking up to ten miles to gain access to a patient; working during periods of inclement weather, including extreme heat and cold, rain, and other changing weather; working with small, delicate items such as oxygen tubing, bandaging materials, IV setups when assisting advanced partners, medications, etc. visually assessing the safety and condition of the emergency scene and the patient, verbally communicating with patients, co-workers, medical personnel and the public either directly or indirectly via electronic communication equipment, driving the ambulance in emergency and non-emergency situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environments that may lead to environmental conditions can include: extreme heat or cold, hazardous materials, electrical emergencies, outdoor emergency settings, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other unusual or unexpected conditions.

NOISE LEVELS ASSOCIATED WITH JOB

  • Moderate Noise (Examples: business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic).
  • Loud Noise (Examples: metal can manufacturing, large earth-moving equipment).
  • Very Loud Noise (Examples: Loud crowds and music as found at rock concerts).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-year experience in a 911/EMS system or Emergency Technician in a Hospital Trauma Center.
  • State certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic determined by appropriate state requirements.
  • Current CPR certification as established by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI).*
  • Required FEMA IS Certifications (IS-100.C, IS-200.C, IS-700.B, IS800.C, IS-905, IS-907)**
  • Current and valid state-issued driver’s license as per state regulations.
  • Proficient communication skills; ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and managers.
  • Basic writing skills for correspondence and reports, and the ability to present information in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to duty assignments without delays or special accommodation.

*CPR certification from other agencies will be recognized upon hire, however the applicant will be required to utilize AHA or ASHI upon future recertification.

**Applicants that have not completed the required FEMA certifications will still be processed. Any offer issued to the applicant is contingent on the successful completion of ALL FEMA certifications within 30 days of start date. FEMA certifications are required for employment and, therefore, compensation is not provided for time spent to obtain them.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Current and valid national EMS certification at the EMT level from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
  • Ability to drive large vehicles and/or tow trailers in normal and adverse conditions.

  • Complete all tasks with attention to detail, regardless of size.
  • Demonstrate personal motivation and take ownership of job tasks and outcomes.
  • Prioritize a sense of urgency in all work performed.
  • Uphold professionalism and show respect towards patients, colleagues, emergency service providers, healthcare workers, and the public.
