MedEx Ambulance Service Inc. in Skokie, IL is seeking an Ambulance Communications Center – Call Taker to handle emergency and non-emergency transportation requests.

You will screen calls, ensure HIPAA compliance, and make policy-based decisions while maintaining calm, accurate communication under pressure. Qualified candidates have experience in communications and customer service, with a High School diploma or GED.

Ambulance Communications Center – Call Taker

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Receive emergency and non-emergency requests for ambulance and medicar (wheelchair van) transportation.
• Properly screen telephone calls and electronic communications.
• HIPAA Compliance.
• Ability to make decisions consistent with policy and guidelines.
• Ability to think logically and quickly during an emergency.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in communications and customer service.
• Good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations.
• Detail-oriented and able to perform clerical functions.
• Must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language.
• Must be able to communicate effectively, via telephone and radio to obtain and provide relevant information.

EDUCATION, LICENSURE & CERTIFICATIONS:

• High School graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Licensed EMT, EMD, or experienced EMS Dispatch (preferred).
