Job summary

You will input transportation service items into the billing database and handle communications with contracted consultants and clients professionally.

Report to the Medical Billing Supervisor; participate in daily operations, adapt to billing changes, and help expedite payments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or certified training in medical coding and billing.
• Business and billing training/experience preferred.
• Strong typing skills and basic computer knowledge.
• Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and record management.
• Ability to multitask and use good judgment.
• Effective communication with vendors, colleagues, and clients.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient care reports to determine patient information for insurance purposes.
• Contacts facilities, hospitals, and patients for missing information and physician certification statements.
• Gathers data such as insurance company name, policy holder, policy number, and services rendered.
• Contacts insurance companies to verify coverage, determine payors, and obtain benefits information.
• Computes total bill showing amounts to be paid by insurer and patient.
• Follow-up with companies and individuals regarding unpaid claims.
• Sorts incoming mail and researches better addresses for returned mail.
• Prepares outgoing mail – bills, invoices, statements, and reports.
• Answers billing lines and greets visitors; assists as needed.
• Answers billing questions from patients and contract payors professionally.
