Options for Community Living, Inc. is seeking an Empowerment Specialist (Peer Specialist) to help tenants in self-advocacy and self-management from our Hempstead office.

The role features 17.5–21 hours per week, non-exempt pay, and a $18.00–$22.00 per hour range, with benefits and training opportunities. The ideal candidate will have an OMH-endorsed Peer Credential (YPA-C or NYCPS), read at an 8th-grade level or higher, and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, plus a valid

Qualifications

• Must read at least 8th grade (Reading Level or higher).
• Interpersonal skills to motivate and assist others.
• Ability to communicate knowledgeably about local services and systems of care.
• Should have 1 year of active participation in mental health self-help or peer programs.
• Must hold an OMH-endorsed Peer Credential (YPA-C or NYCPS).
• Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
• Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, valid auto insurance, and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Coach and encourage tenants in self-advocacy and self-management.
• Provide frequent contact and monitoring of progress.
• Accompany tenants on clinical and supportive service appointments.
• Assist case managers during client interventions.
• Participate in case conferences.
• Assist with maintenance of binder/client files.
