Job summary

Wake County Public School System seeks an Instructional Assistant in Special Education to support classrooms serving students with IEPs. You will assist teachers with behavioral plans, adapt instruction, and help implement low- and high-tech assistive devices while ensuring a safe learning environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, CPI certification, and ability to work in a diverse school setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ESSA Title I eligibility: six semester hours in early childhood education or two years’ experience in an early childhood setting.
• CPI certification required and renewal process followed; CPI training provided by WCPSS if needed.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
• Experience with or supporting individuals with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for students with IEPs.
• Assist with behavioral plan strategies and classroom management.
• Prepare materials and ensure availability per lesson plan.
• Support assistive technology and AAC devices in-class.
• Maintain confidential records and documentation.
• Assist with student transitions between classes and care needs as required.
• Participate in district staff development and professional growth.
