Job summary

AMHC in Calais, ME is hiring a full-time Peer Recovery Coach to provide non-clinical, recovery-oriented support for individuals working to sustain recovery from substance use disorders. The role emphasizes respect, empowerment, self-direction, and hope, using lived experience to support others on their recovery journey.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be in recovery for at least 1 year or have lived experience with substance use disorder.
• Reliable transportation; valid driver’s license preferred.
• Must complete CCAR Model training and CCAR Ethics training and register with the State of Maine as a registered recovery coach.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support, education, advocacy, and linkage to resources for individuals with substance use disorders.
• Engage individuals in recovery centers, behavioral health settings, hospitals, shelters, law enforcement settings, and the community.
• Promote recovery-based care through relationship-building, role modeling, and practical support.
• Build trusting, supportive, non-judgmental relationships and provide emotional support.
• Facilitate skill-building and psycho-educational groups (e.g., WRAP).
• Assist with referrals and coordination of mental health and substance use services; remove barriers to care.
• Participate in outreach and education to reduce stigma and educate families and the community.
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards; complete required documentation and training.
