Job summary

Kaniksu Community Health is a nonprofit health center serving north Idaho with a patient-centered medical home model. The Behavioral Health Coach – Peer Recovery role supports patients in recovery, provides coaching, and collaborates with clinicians to coordinate care in a fast-paced, team-based setting.

The position emphasizes motivational interviewing, trauma-informed practices, harm reduction, and living the recovery experience to empower individuals on their wellness journeys.

Qualifications

• CPRC certification or eligibility required.
• Minimum 2 years of sustained personal recovery preferred if using lived experience.
• Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check or waivers if required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish healthy professional boundaries.
• Commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care.
• Ability to work independently within an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Build authentic, respectful relationships with individuals seeking recovery support.
• Serve as mentor, advocate, and recovery partner promoting hope and resilience.
• Use lived experience to inspire recovery and support individualized goals.
• Provide peer recovery coaching with motivational interviewing, recovery capital, trauma-informed care, harm reduction.
• Help individuals create, implement, and review recovery and wellness plans.
• Conduct outreach in clinics, hospitals, community sites, and other locations.
• Support transitions after hospitalization or treatment episodes.
• Link individuals to healthcare, housing, transportation, and community resources.
• Offer emotional support and crisis de-escalation within the Recovery Coach scope.
• Collaborate with clinicians and care teams to coordinate patient-centered care.
• Document services accurately in the EHR and maintain privacy.
