Job summary

Cambridge Public Schools invites applications for a Health Education Teacher at Putnam Avenue Upper School (grades 6-8). You will deliver developmentally appropriate health education and lead elective courses in a dynamic, urban middle school setting.

Reporting to the Head of the Upper School and Wellness Director, you will implement the MA Health Education Framework, foster inclusive, culturally responsive instruction, collaborate with counselors and families, and participate in school-wide

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in health education or related field required.
• Massachusetts DESE license for health education; PK-12 Health/Family/Consumer Science certification required.
• Experience teaching middle school health education in an urban setting.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to teach sensitive health topics in a professional, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive manner.

Responsibilities

• Provide developmentally appropriate, inclusive health education to grades 6–8.
• Teach SEL, relationships, sexuality education, nutrition, mental health, and related topics.
• Create a safe, inclusive classroom and welcome diverse identities.
• Use evidence-based instructional practices and assess student learning.
• Collaborate with counselors, nurses, administrators, and families.
• Communicate with families and engage community partners.
• Participate in school and district committees and health promotion activities.
• Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Engage in professional learning related to health education and SEL.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
