Job summary

HOOVER in Waterloo, Iowa seeks a Special Education Paraeducator/Instructional Assistant for elementary students. You will assist the teacher to create an effective classroom environment, support learning in small groups, monitor student progress, and participate in IEP/behavior meetings as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma, NCLB/compliance and basic tech skills; prior experience with students with special needs is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• NCLB compliance – 60 college credit hours, associate’s degree, generalist or specialist para educator license issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners OR competency test.

Responsibilities

• Assist instruction to individuals or small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Participate in professional development.
• Provide support to students based on individual need.
• Participate in IEP meetings/behavior intervention meetings when applicable.
• Monitor and report progress of students in behavior and academics.
