Job summary

Waterloo Community School District is seeking a Special Education Paraeducator/Instructional Assistant for an elementary setting. The role supports teachers, aids individual or small groups, and helps maintain a productive learning environment.

The position requires a high school diploma, NCLB compliance or equivalent, and basic computer skills. Candidates should have strong behavior management and communication abilities and be able to work well with staff, students and families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• NCLB compliance – 60 college credit hours or associate’s/generalist or specialist paraeducator license OR district competency test.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups.
• Participate in professional development.
• Support students based on individual needs.
• Attend IEP and behavior intervention meetings when applicable.
• Monitor and report progress of students.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.
• Provide supervision in classrooms, halls, lunchroom and playground.
• Assist with de-escalation and classroom management.
• Transport students as needed.
• Follow district policies and procedures.
