Job summary

AABR in Jamaica, NY is seeking a Part Time Residential Direct Support Professional to work one-on-one with individuals with developmental disabilities. You will assess needs and provide compassionate, safe support to foster independence.

You will promote daily living skills, encourage hobbies and community involvement, document progress, and follow health and safety protocols. A High School diploma and current SCIP, CPR and First Aid certifications are required; background checks and orientation

Qualifications

Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Able to work independently and make sound judgments benefiting the client.
Flexible with the ability to handle stress and maintain composure.
Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for helping those in need.

Responsibilities

Be supportive, positive and encouraging in meeting the needs of those with developmental disabilities to foster independence.
Encourage individuals’ hobbies, interests and self-determined choices.
Help with daily living needs including nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication and socialization.
Assist with bathing, grooming, eating, and dressing to improve self-reliance.
Track progress, create goals, and report findings to supervisors.
