Job summary

RHA Health Services in the United States seeks a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with intellectual, developmental, mental health, and substance use challenges in home and community settings. The role emphasizes understanding personal backgrounds and goals, under supervision, to foster empowerment and inclusion.

The DSP will support daily living, accompany clients to activities, and help with transportation, while maintaining confidentiality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Meet all pre-employment screening.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist the person(s) receiving services in identifying and communicating requests and needs for services and support.
• Promote and support a healthy lifestyle by educating on wellness practices and preventing illness.
• Foster self-advocacy and encourage individual choice and decision-making aligned with personal goals.
• Accompany and support individuals in community activities to promote social engagement.
• Teach and support development of independent living skills for daily living.
• Provide safe and reliable transportation to appointments and community engagements.
• Foster positive relationships and inclusivity within the community.
• Support decisions about living arrangements, employment, and social relationships.
• Assist with personal care tasks and household chores to maintain a comfortable living environment.
• Document all services to ensure accurate records and communication among teams.
• Understand challenges faced by individuals with mental/behavioral health needs and advocate as needed.
• Connect individuals to career exploration, education, volunteerism, and personal growth resources.
• Promote effective communication and respectful interactions.
• Administer medications where allowed by state regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to legal/ethical standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to enhance service quality.
