SEK-CAP, Inc. seeks an Assistant Teacher to collaborate with staff in a Head Start program in Independence, KS. The role supports developmentally appropriate services for children and families, stepping in as Lead Teacher when needed and ensuring compliance with standards.

The position emphasizes classroom support, family and community engagement, data management, and ongoing professional development to foster a safe, inclusive learning environment for 3-5 year olds.

Qualifications

• Preschool CDA credential or higher and ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• Pass a standard background check and maintain certifications.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and data entry in systems.

Responsibilities

• Promote daily program operations ensuring quality services for children and families.
• Implement and maintain Head Start Standards and agency policies.
• Ensure clean, sanitary facilities for a safe work environment.
• Assist Lead Teacher when necessary and supervise class activities.
• Engage children to support language development and overall growth.
• Support mealtime routines and Family Style Meals.
• Apply social/emotional strategies to prevent challenging behavior.
• Complete data entry in agency approved data system.
• Attend mandatory in-service training and travel as needed.
• Identify nutritional needs and coordinate with kitchen staff.
• Screen and refer developmental concerns to appropriate services.
• Maintain professional relationships with families and staff.
