Job summary

DREAM is seeking a high-capacity, student-centered Head Coach for our East Harlem middle school competitive team. You will lead team culture, athlete development, safety, and program execution during practices and games, reporting to the Dean of Student Life.

The role is part-time, with duties including study halls, practices, and game-day responsibilities at East Harlem locations. Commitment includes after-school hours, with safety and youth development at the core.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of coaching experience (middle school experience strongly preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to lead youth programs with structure, accountability, and care
• Strong understanding of the sport’s rules and strategy
• Experience working with school-age children
• Ability to explicitly teach and model youth development competencies
• Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail
• CPR/First Aid certification is a plus
• Strong alignment with DREAM’s mission and values

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of team culture, setting clear expectations for behavior, effort and sportsmanship
• Establish a structured, positive, and accountable team environment aligned with DREAM values
• Model professionalism, preparedness, and sound judgment
• Lead and support a structured study hall program and academic accountability
• Design and submit high-quality, structured practice plans in advance
• Facilitate engaging practices and maximize participation and skill development
• Lead game-day strategy, roster management, and team readiness
• Maintain supervision and ensure safe arrival and dismissal of participants
• Communicate with Athletics Director regarding attendance and updates
• Escalate concerns and incidents promptly
• Drive athlete recruitment and sustained engagement
• Manage roster and family communications as directed
• Ensure program expectations are implemented consistently
