Job summary

Waltham Public Schools (Waltham Family School) seeks a part-time ESOL instructor to teach adult learners in a family literacy program. Classes run for 18–20 adults at high beginner to low intermediate level, with collaborative planning among 9 educators to prepare 40 students and parents for school, work, and community engagement.

The position is 19.5 hours per week (Tues–Fri 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.), 180 work days Aug–June, with prep time; salary is $40/hour and non-benefits eligible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 1–2 years experience teaching adult ESOL.
• Ability to develop lessons and materials for a learner-centered curriculum.
• Computer/Chromebook proficiency; ability to teach technology skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with ESOL staff at weekly planning meetings.
• Prepare Sheltered English units of study in core content areas.
• Teach class Tue–Fri, 9am–12pm; 18–20 adults.
• Develop weekly lesson plans and submit for supervisory review.
• Engage and supervise community volunteers and support student leadership.
• Participate in school events and staff retreats.
• Administer adult learner assessments and report results.
