The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for an Employment Specialist at Carr P. Collins Social Service Center, located in Dallas, TX.
Job Summary:
Provides instruction to increase clients’ knowledge and ability relating to areas such as resume building, job searching, interviewing skills, job retention, tools for effective workplace communication, and job skills; secures employment opportunities in the community and provides job placement and retention services for clients; assesses clients for job readiness and abilities; follows-up with clients to determine progress in obtaining and maintaining employment.
Essential Functions:

Employment Services Responsibilities (20%)
Interviews clients and determines skills, needs, goals, and sincerity; secures employment opportunities in the community for eligible clients; follows up with clients to determine progress in obtaining and maintaining employment.
Talks with individual employers as to their employment needs; reviews and compiles employer’s information identifying employer needs.
Enters client data into the computer database; records and updates database regarding each contact with client and/or employer.
Employment Readiness Training Responsibilities (65%)
Provides classroom job readiness and soft skills training, and provides one-on-one job placement and job retention services.
Coordinates services with vocational training programs; makes referrals for vocational skills training as necessary.
Administers hands-on workshops which include job club meetings in accordance with client needs; coordinates with Education Coordinator to identify classroom topics; maintains records and attendance for each session.
Teaches job readiness and soft skills training classes implemented from pre-purchased program; will be informed and prepared with classroom curriculum, classroom activities and power point presentation to ensure all information is accurate and correct; determines level of classroom interaction and makes necessary adaptations in presentation and activities when necessary.
Coordinates vocational education program activities, including scheduling and teaching classes; scheduling volunteers and outside agencies to facilitate classes, organizing attendance at other educational fairs and events; developing and updating lesson plans.
Conducts one-on-one education sessions with clients as needed, including job and vocational coaching services.
Assists Education Supervisor with facilitating financial education classes, as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities (15%)
Maintains supplies and inventory of all education materials and teaching tools.
Prepares and maintains statistical records on education related activities; compiles and prepares monthly statistical reports; ensures the accuracy and completeness prior to submission.
Other Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of employment practices and job recruitment.
Ability to identify client job skills and match them with job requirements.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with community employers.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate client reports, records, and statistics.
Ability to maintain up-to-date computer database records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Education or related field, with a Bachelors degree in the same preferred,
and
One to two years’ experience working in education, job development and job placement, or a social or public service environment with experience assisting the public,
or
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Certifications:
Valid State Drivers License
Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
Ability to operate a computer and telephone effectively.
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Limited amount of physical effort require associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, except for driving conditions.
