Job summary

Truist in Atlanta, GA seeks an experienced paralegal to support its labor/employment law practice. Regular full-time on-site position requiring strong knowledge of employment law and the ability to handle high-volume investigations and responses to government agency claims.

Responsibilities include complex fact investigation, legal research, drafting and proofreading of documents, and mentoring junior staff. Excellent time management and communication skills are essential; travel is minimal.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an ABA-approved curriculum or equivalent education; or paralegal training program; or paralegal certification; or prior experience.
  • 5+ years of related legal or financial experience.
  • Strong understanding of legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures.
  • Strong analytical thinking with ability to identify issues, analyze complex information, and reach conclusions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and writing skills; ability to convey complex facts clearly.
  • Knowledge of legal research methods and accuracy in drafting.
  • Creative problem-solving and leadership/relationship management abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple attorneys and departments.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office).

Utilize strong knowledge of employment law, possess significant experience with investigating and responding to employment-related claims filed with government agencies, including writing position and mediation statements in response to such claims and demonstrate strong time and organizational management skills to assist labor/employment law attorneys. Responsible for large volume of varying or moderate to complex employment-related litigation matters with minimal supervision, requiring substantial prior experience in legal research, drafting and proof-reading of legal and business communications; document identification, review and production; implementing and managing evidence preservation and collection efforts in connection with anticipated and pending claims and other litigation-oriented tasks. Establish strong relationships with client contacts. Also requires the ability to communicate professionally with internal clients, outside counsel, and government agency representatives, case file management skills, data and regulatory change tracking, data reporting and other responsibilities as assigned.

****Position is office centric 5 days each week and can sit in

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • 1. Resolve complex to highly-complex issues, transactions, or projects where significant professional expertise is required to apply law, regulation, policies, and guidelines.
  • 2. Investigate facts of a large volume of varying or complex to highly-complex matters, cases, or transactions, including by interviews with clients or witnesses. Organize, review, and analyze large volumes of detailed information.
  • 3. Perform moderately complex legal research, apply results to facts, and develop and communicate legal conclusions.
  • 4. Draft and review moderately complex legal and business documents including correspondence, agreements, contracts, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • 5. Summarize matters, including events, facts, depositions, testimony, and interrogatories.
  • 6. Design, maintain, and/or manage one or more Legal Department workflow processes, reports, tools, and databases.
  • 7. Maintain and update files, forms, databases, and records.
  • 8. Interact on a professional level with other departments, internal and external clients, outside counsel, vendors, and others, including managers.
  • 9. Provide guidance and training to less experienced paralegals or other support staff, as applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1. Bachelor’s degree in an American Bar Association approved curriculum or equivalent education; or paralegal training program; or paralegal certification; or prior experience
  • 2. 5 or more years of related legal or financial experience
  • 3. Strong understanding of legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures
  • 4. Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to identify and define issues, establish facts, analyze complex information, and develop substantiated conclusions with minimal supervision
  • 5. Strong communication skills with the ability to express complex facts and legal principles clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • 6. Strong knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of legal research and writing with demonstrated proficiency in online legal research
  • 7. Creative problem-solving skills with ability to identify and resolve complex problems in a timely manner seeking input of others as needed
  • 8. Strong leadership and relationship management skills with the ability to positively influence others and achieve desired results
  • 9. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet multiple deadlines
  • 10. Ability to manage numerous projects that require interaction with multiple attorneys, departments, and internal and external clients, including managers
  • 11. Strong organizational and project management skills; attention to detail and accuracy
  • 12. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1. Certified Legal Assistant designation or have passed the Paralegal Ad
  • 2. Significant experience and expertise in investigating employment-related legal claims and drafting position statements for submission to government agencies
  • 3. Strong experience handling employment-related litigation, including evidence preservation and document collection and production
  • 4. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and handle competing time-sensitive matters
