Job summary

gpac, a well-established Iowa law firm, seeks an experienced Employment & Litigation Attorney to join its growing practice. This role blends employment/labor counseling with civil litigation to support employers and advise on workplace matters.

The attorney will handle matters from inception through trial, build client relationships, and have a path to shareholder status. A J.D. and 5+ years of employment/labor experience are required, with Iowa bar admission or eligibility.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Minimum 5 years of employment, labor, or related litigation experience.
• Iowa Bar admission or eligibility to obtain admission promptly.
• Strong litigation, writing, negotiation, and client counseling abilities.

• Handle employment, labor, and civil litigation matters from inception through resolution or trial.
• Counsel employers on workplace issues including discipline, termination, leave, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and investigations.
• Represent clients before EEOC, Iowa Civil Rights Commission, and other agencies.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and employment-related documents.
• Take and defend depositions, participate in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
• Develop strong client relationships and participate in business development.

Responsibilities

• Handle employment, labor, and civil litigation matters from inception through resolution or trial.
• Counsel employers on workplace issues, including discipline, termination, leave, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and investigations.
• Handle discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, restrictive covenant, and other employment-related claims.
• Represent clients before the EEOC, Iowa Civil Rights Commission, Department of Labor, and other agencies.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, employment agreements, policies, handbooks, and related documents.
• Take and defend depositions and participate in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
• Develop strong client relationships and participate in business development.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• 5+ years of employment law, labor law, and/or related litigation experience.
• Active Iowa Bar admission or ability to obtain admission promptly.
• Strong litigation, legal writing, negotiation, and client counseling skills.
• Ability to independently manage cases and client relationships.
• Employer-side, public-sector, trial, arbitration, or administrative hearing experience is a plus.
