Job summary

Orion Industries in Washington state seeks an Employment Consultant to support clients on employment and community inclusion journeys. You will help clients identify strengths and connect them with inclusive activities in their communities during on-site work.

Responsibilities include coaching, case management, and coordinating with families and funders. A flexible schedule and ability to work with diverse stakeholders are required, with ITAR-related emphasis and driving responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Experience with people with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of intellectual disabilities and their impact on employment.
  • Flexible schedule including weekends/evenings/holidays.
  • Some direct sales experience or pitching concepts.
  • Must pass background check including BCCU.
  • Valid driver's license and insured vehicle.
  • Ability to pass Orion driving abstract for client transport.
  • Pre-employment drug test required.
  • Effective communication with diverse stakeholders in English.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of supporting someone with a developmental disability. As an Employment Consultant, you will get to support the clients on your caseload through their employment and/or community inclusion journey. You will get to help clients realize their strengths and use it towards finding and maintaining employment in their communities. For Community Inclusion clients, you will be the support person for them to find inclusive activities in their community where they can participate in their best way possible, can make connections with others, and enjoy the time they spend at the activity.

Coaching
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and ongoing support to supported employees, managers, and coworkers to ensure successful job performance and adaptation to task changes.
  • Support career growth through regular onsite visits, identifying opportunities, and addressing personnel issues with solutions such as behavior supports, communication systems, and adaptive technology.
  • Collaborate with the client, business, and supports to create a fading plan for coaching supports with employment or CI activities.
  • Develop community job opportunities using best-practice job development strategies, including environmental/job analysis and creation of business proposals.
  • Market services to employers by generating leads, participating in networking events, and building strong relationships within the business community.
  • Conduct vocational assessments to determine job seekers' marketable skills and advocate for best practices while collaborating with the DDA community and educating staff.
Case Management
  • Develop annual service plan goals for clients on caseload with support of Employment Consultant Lead - as needed.
  • Implement solutions to transportation issues as needed.
  • Coordinate supports with funders, residential staff, and families during all stages of services.
  • Maintain daily case records and other documentation to demonstrate outcomes and progress on behalf of clients.
  • Manage caseload and required monthly service hours and develop weekly schedule to meet customer needs.
  • Maintain billing of 80% of allocated hours.
  • Assures all behavior plans are based upon principles of positive behavioral supports and personal responsibility and include a functional assessment of the problem behaviors.
Communication
  • Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate any issues to Employment Consultant Lead or Community Based Services Program Manager.
  • Proactively coordinate with family, guardian, or residential staff as needed.
  • Coordinate and communicate with staff if operating as a Primary or Secondary EC to achieve seamless services.

Requirements
Education:
  • Level 1 - Associate degree or high school diploma with one year experience working with people with I / DD, preferably in a vocational setting
  • Level 2 or 3 - Bachelor's degree in related field or certification in employment services such as CESP or experience in lieu of education
  • Lead - Bachelor's degree in related field or minimum of 3 years' experience in a leadership role in the DDA community
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of intellectual disabilities and their impact on functioning and employment.
  • Can maintain a flexible work schedule that may include weekends, evenings, early mornings, and occasional Holidays.
  • Has experience with some form of direct sales (selling a product or idea, pitching a new concept to a company or manager).
  • Ability to pass background check including the Washington State Department of Social and Health services background through Background Check Central Unit (BCCU)
  • Must have valid driver's license and personally insured vehicle
  • Ability to pass Orion's driving abstract requirement to allow for transportation of clients
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Possess or acquire a first aid/CPR certification when course is offered by Orion
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, demonstrating strong verbal and written English skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships through excellent customer service and professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills, synthesizing information to reach sound decisions.
  • Shows adaptability and technical proficiency, including flexible scheduling and solid computer literacy.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or American Sign Language is a plus.
