Job description

At Allstate, great things happen when our people work together to protect families and their belongings from life's uncertainties. Job Description

Step into a dynamic role at the intersection of law and business. As Employment Counsel, you'll serve as a trusted advisor on all facets of employment law, including agency charges, compliance, accommodations, compensation, and employee separations. You'll manage pre-litigation disputes and guide business leaders through complex workplace issues with clarity and confidence.

This role is strategic as well as reactive. You'll proactively identify risks, shape policies, and provide insightful counsel to navigate an evolving legal landscape—all while ensuring cost efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Collaboration is essential. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, clients, and outside counsel, aligning legal strategies with business objectives and fostering effective communication across teams.

If you're energized by challenging work, meaningful impact, and shaping employment practices, this is your opportunity to influence at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage attorney demand letters, arbitrations, dispute handling, participate in mediations, and prepare/review settlement documents.
  • Review and respond to agency complaints and requests.
  • Develop strategies for assigned legal matters.
  • Evaluate the use of outside counsel.
  • Advise HR and business units on employment laws such as FLSA, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, OSHA, Title VII, and WARN, including company policies and practices.
  • Provide complex training to HR on employment law issues, terminations, reductions in force, etc.
  • Offer legal counsel to promote sound workplace practices globally, including in the U.S., Canada, India, Mexico, and Northern Ireland, consulting with outside counsel as needed.
  • Travel for department meetings and events as required.
Education
  • Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing within the state of practice.
Experience
  • 7 or more years of relevant experience (preferred).
