Job description

This position is located in the Employees' Compensation Appeals Board (ECAB) which has final and exclusive jurisdiction to hear and decide appeals from decisions of the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) regarding claims arising under the Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA).

This position is inside the bargaining unit.

For GS-09: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-07 in the Federal Service.

Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

Qualifying specialized experience for GS-09 includes:

  • Experience with proofreading and editing legal documents for correct formatting, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Experience with reviewing legal citations and editing legal citations for proper style and format.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word (experience in use of that software for footnotes, formatting, proofreading, and editing documents, including review functions).
  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree.
  • 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • LL.B. or J.D., if related.
  • Combination of education and experience.
