Mortenson is looking for an Employee Relations Specialist to join the Mortenson family. This position is part of the Employee Relations team, which sits within the Human Resource Business Partner umbrella. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills and gain a solid foundation in the core aspects of Human Resources. In this role, you will navigate and investigate concerns and complaints, provide support to both team members and managers, and work proactively with teams to maintain a safe and respectful work environment. Additionally, you will collaborate with HR Business Partners to support managers and leaders in addressing challenges and enhancing performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct intake calls and investigate team member concerns.
  • Collaborate with HR business partners and managers to resolve issues.
  • Document findings and actions taken, ensuring accuracy.
  • Assess and implement effective solutions to concerns.
  • Interpret and apply policies to various situations.
  • Coach and counsel team members and managers.
  • Assist in disciplinary decisions and performance management.
  • Assist team members and managers through the interactive discussion process pertaining to accommodation requests.
  • Analyze data trends and provide training on best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local laws, and company policies.
  • Assist with separation and performance management documents.
  • Manage, maintain, and track HR-related documents and data.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting, analysis, and presentations for the talent team.
  • Partner with Center of Excellence teams for seamless service delivery.
  • Support special projects, such as legal research, policy rollouts, and team initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum two years of Human Resources experience, ideally involving employee relations and investigations
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management or related field, preferred or equivalent experience demonstrated over multiple years of related work experience
  • Ability to effectively build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Ability to navigate conflict and maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of the organization (both inside and outside the company)
  • Ethical and experience applying judgment and consideration to situations
  • Knowledge and application of employment law
  • Ability to keep sensitive information confidential
  • Curiosity for understanding the situation and highly detailed
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

The base pay range for this role

is $83,700 - $125,600. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
