Job description

Position Information

Reporting to the Director of Employee and Labor Relations, the Employee Relations Representative is an experienced professional who applies theory to practice with an in‑depth understanding of the Employee Relations field. The role supports employee relations issues and employee engagement efforts in a high‑performance workplace. Internal and external contacts often relate to significant employee relations programs and objectives. The Representative advises supervisors regarding employee performance management, corrective actions, discipline, dismissal, investigations, complaints and grievances. Typically, the Representative works on assignments with limited oversight on diverse and complex matters that require evaluation of many factors and implications with broad organizational impact.

Salary: $75,900–$137,300 annually (analyst) or up to $135,000 annually (consultant). Applicants must have current work authorization and are required to submit a cover letter and resume for full consideration.

Responsibilities

• Advise and counsel client groups to resolve employee relations questions, concerns, and grievances for a mid‑to‑large size group of employees.
• Conduct investigations and manage complaints and grievances within a high‑performance workplace.
• Provide employee‑relations support to assigned client groups and apply employee‑relation‑specific concepts and skills.
• Make judgments and exercise professional discretion in determining appropriate actions, relying on experience within the field.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• JD or Master’s degree in a related area (required).

Experience Requirements

• 4–7 years of related experience.
• Experience conducting complex workplace investigations.
• Professional experience performing employee‑relations activities in higher education.

Minimum Requirements

• Organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Thorough knowledge of other HR areas, organizational policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of employee‑relations practices, applicable state and federal laws, and union/labor contracts.
• Conflict‑resolution skills.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to handle very difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of UC policies and procedures.
