Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is seeking a Materials Manager to lead the Materials Department at our Walker, MI plant. You will oversee inventory, shipping, and procurement of raw materials, ensuring on-time delivery and accurate cycle counts. The role requires five years in materials planning, leadership experience, and familiarity with ERP systems, preferably Plex.

Automotive background is highly valued. You will drive materials availability, collaborate across teams, and support a lean production

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Five+ years experience in Materials Planner/Scheduler or related role.
• Leadership experience required.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred (Supply Chain/Logistics) is a strong plus.
• Experience with Plex Systems ERP strongly preferred.
• Automotive industry experience preferred.
• Experience using GM Supply Power or Honda Web preferred.

Responsibilities

• Order Processing – EDI and Manual.
• MRP, JRP, PRP.
• Knowledge of Kanban.
• All shipping activities – scanning, labeling, loading, paperwork.
• Accum management.
• Customer contact.
• On-time delivery.
• Packaging (returnable and expendable).
• Receiving process – standard and subcontract.
• Track errors.
• Production scheduling.
• Releases of raw materials and purchased parts.
• Capacity analysis.
• Warehouse organization – raw, purchased, WIP and finished goods.
• Maintain defined inventory levels with reporting.
• Cycle counting to 90%+ accuracy.
• Maintain inventories so production can operate without stoppages.
