The Hartford is seeking an Underwriting Quality Consultant to lead quality reviews of Employee Benefits underwriting cases, ensuring adherence to pricing and underwriting standards across Regional/National Accounts. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and guidance to underwriters.

This position offers hybrid or remote work; near Hartford, CT; Lake Mary, FL; Alpharetta, GA candidates will work in office 3 days a week (Tue–Thu) with remote options otherwise.

Qualifications

  • Technical underwriting knowledge with ability to underwrite Employee Benefits cases with limited complexity.
  • 3 years of Employee Benefits underwriting experience required; National Accounts (5,000 ) and Regional Accounts (1,000 — 4,999) experience strongly preferred
  • Must be detail oriented; able to challenge existing norms using logic
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of quality evaluation processes/principles
  • Proven ability to act with integrity and respect (confidential work)
  • Self-starter capable of working across organization levels
  • Contribute to customer success by troubleshooting issues and streamlining workflows
  • Ability to work independently to drive results
  • Ability to multi-task while prioritizing and managing time
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong team building and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Execute quality reviews by reconstructing Employee Benefits underwriting cases to validate adherence to compliance and regulatory standards, pricing protocols, underwriting standards, documentation protocols and guidelines.
  • Perform targeted audits on emerging trends, areas of concern or process changes to inform Risk Management practices and guidelines.
  • Complete root cause analysis on quality reviews and audit results by evaluating data for quality trends and opportunities from multiple sources including, but not limited to independently run reports.
  • Deliver meaningful feedback in a respectable manner to Underwriters and or their leaders when reporting Quality results, trends, and recommendations.
  • Support Strategic Reserve by underwriting cases during peak periods; collaborate effectively with business customers (Underwriting & Sales) to meet customer deadlines.
  • Identify learning opportunities based on quality findings: prepare and present training materials when applicable.
  • Lead or participate in strategic initiatives exhibiting thought leadership by providing insightful input and expertise to influence and deliver optimal business outcomes.
  • Function as an Underwriting Subject Matter Expert: stay current with guideline, best practice, tool and system enhancements. Competently articulate enhancements to Underwriters to ensure consistency across the organization when deviations are identified.
  • Effectively coach and mentor Underwriters, provide insightful and comprehensive consultations, tailor conversations based on individual needs to instill expertise among our Underwriting organization.
  • Manage own time and workload efficiently: balance multiple priorities to fulfill all commitments within established timeframes.

The Quality Management team provides governance and oversight validating adherence to pricing protocols, underwriting standards, documentation protocols and guidelines across all of Employment Benefits operating segments (this role is specific to Regional/National Accounts).

The Underwriting Quality Consultant is expected to build relationships and collaborate with cross functional business customers, at various levels of the organization, to successfully drive Quality results and inform Risk Management.

This role will have a Hybrid or Remote work schedule. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT; Lake Mary, FL; Alpharetta, GA) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work schedule, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
