Job Overview:A respected law firm in Bend, OR, is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits Attorney with over a decade of expertise to join their team. This role involves working on complex benefits matters, providing legal counsel on retirement and compensation plans, and advising clients on compliance and transaction-related aspects within employee benefits law.
Duties:
- Design, draft, amend, and oversee the administration and governance of qualified retirement plans under various codes, including § 401(a), 403(b), and 457(b)
- Collaborate with clients to address documentary, administrative, and fiduciary issues in retirement, health, welfare plans, and executive compensation arrangements
- Support clients through corporate transactions, including benefits and compensation aspects related to restructurings, reductions-in-force, and change-in-control scenarios
- Develop, document, and manage ERISA health and welfare plan materials and summary plan descriptions
- Provide legal advice on trust law issues associated with multiemployer plans and assess multiemployer pension plan withdrawal liability
- Counsel clients on employment-related documents and 409A compliance matters
- Conduct due diligence and review Merger & Acquisition documents for ERISA-related considerations
- Offer insights on non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements, including Codes §§ 409A, 457, and 280G
- Demonstrate a commitment to client service with strong ethical practices and ownership of assigned projects
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in employee benefits law, particularly in areas involving qualified and non-qualified retirement plans
- Proficiency in handling ERISA, multiemployer plans, and compliance-related tasks
- Strong analytical, legal research, and writing skills with the ability to communicate complex information effectively
- Demonstrated client service ethics and experience working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
- Admission to the Bar in Oregon.
Skills:
- Exceptional project management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with a high degree of independence
- Proficiency in ERISA compliance, retirement plan governance, and multiemployer plan management
